Hanoi proposes restructuring and merging five government departments

Hanoi is proposing a significant restructuring of its specialized government agencies to streamline administration and enhance management capacity. According to a proposal submitted by the Hanoi People's Committee to the City People's Council, the city plans to reduce its number of specialized departments from 15 to 14.

The proposed changes include:

- Merging the Department of Planning and Architecture into the Department of Construction. - Merging the Department of Tourism into the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism. - Establishing a new Department of Foreign Affairs by transferring foreign affairs functions, tasks, and personnel from the Office of the Hanoi People's Committee. - Reorganizing the Office of the Hanoi People's Committee following the transfer of foreign affairs responsibilities.

If approved, the Department of Construction will manage areas including urban development, technical infrastructure, and housing. The newly formed Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will oversee culture, family, physical education, sports, and tourism. This restructuring aims to ensure a lean and unified organizational model from the central to the local levels.
