Hanoi unveils 100‑year master plan with new metro, airport and smart‑city initiatives

The Hanoi People’s Committee presented a 100‑year master plan that reshapes the capital into a multi‑layered, green and smart city. Key elements include a 300 km underground metro network, a second international airport near Ninh Bình with a 15‑minute link to the centre via high‑speed rail, dedicated eVTOL taxi corridors and extensive underground spaces for utilities and transport. The plan also earmarks new financial‑district zones, large green corridors and mixed‑use developments such as the Vista Nam An Khánh project.

An exhibition at the Hanoi Museum opened on 29 June, drawing thousands of visitors who examined detailed mapping displays and 3D models of future districts. The city warned that unofficial “check‑plan” websites provide non‑official data and announced a free, official online portal to launch in December 2026. In a related partnership, Grab Vietnam signed an MOU to support the plan by expanding public‑charging stations, integrating transport information and promoting digital tourism, with its CEO saying, “Grab Vietnam is honored to partner with the capital on this historic transition.”
