Hanoi police alert public to new Zalo and Facebook construction material fraud
On 15 June 2026, the Hanoi City Police issued a warning about a newly devised online fraud carried out through the messaging app Zalo and the social network Facebook. The scheme is attributed to Do Minh Tuan (born 1989, resident of Hưng Yên), who created accounts named “Tổng Kho Vật Tư” on Facebook and “Cung Cấp Vật Tư Giá Gốc” on Zalo. He infiltrated construction‑material buying groups, contacted sellers in real warehouses, and used authentic warehouse details and photos to convince buyers that the goods were genuine.
A victim, identified as a woman seeking lightweight concrete slabs, transferred 17.65 million VND after receiving a quotation and directions to collect the items from a real‑world warehouse. Once the payment was made, the perpetrator cut off all contact, and the warehouse confirmed it had received no payment. Police advise the public to verify sellers’ identities, avoid transferring money to personal accounts without contracts and invoices, and report suspected fraud promptly.
