Hanoi police arrest eight for fake tumor medicine scam

Hanoi police have arrested eight individuals for allegedly defrauding victims by selling fake “traditional herbal medicine” claimed to cure tumors. The group used various Facebook accounts to advertise products named “Tieu Giap Duong” and “Tieu Giap Thien.”

Investigations revealed that Nguyen Van Tu managed the social media accounts and coordinated with Duong Thi Quynh, a business owner, to process unidentified plant stems and leaves into powders, pieces, or pastes. The group then marketed these substances as legitimate traditional remedies.

Authorities have processed complaints from 26 victims, with initial confirmed losses totaling approximately 244.5 million VND. However, police are continuing to verify over 1,400 other potential cases, suggesting the total transaction value could reach billions of VND.
