Hanoi pushes SMEs to adopt AI and e‑commerce for two‑digit GRDP growth
The Hanoi Economic Forum 2026 gathered city leaders, the Science and Technology Department, the Hanoi SME Association (HANOISME) and hundreds of small and medium‑size enterprises to discuss how AI and e‑commerce can drive a two‑digit increase in the city’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP). Director Cù Ngọc Trang of the Science and Technology Department noted that GRDP rose 8.22% in the first half of 2026 – the highest in years – but the city must achieve a 13.44% growth rate in the second half to meet its two‑digit target.
SMEs account for about 98% of all enterprises in Hanoi and are seen as the engine of this growth. Officials highlighted four key challenges: accessing the right policies, applying appropriate technology, connecting with resources and expanding markets. While 52% of large firms have adopted AI, only 17.4% of SMEs have done so, underscoring a gap the forum aims to close. The city also seeks to raise the digital economy’s share of GRDP from the current 16.7% to 22% by 2026.
Mạc Quốc Anh, vice‑president and secretary‑general of HANOISME, stressed that coordinated support, affordable solutions and stronger links between policy makers and businesses are essential for the planned productivity boost.
