Hanoi rolls out mega urban and social housing projects

The capital’s authorities have outlined a slate of large‑scale real estate developments. Ten flagship urban projects total up to tens of thousands of hectares and hundreds of billions of Vietnamese dong in investment, including the Red River Landscape Axis (11,400 ha, VND 737 trn) slated for 2026‑2038, the International Sports City (9,171 ha, VND 925 trn) designed for 751,000 residents and a 135,000‑seat stadium, and several multi‑purpose districts such as Bắc Thăng Long Urban City and the Thu Lâm‑Dong Anh master‑plan.

In parallel, Hanoi’s Construction Department has proposed five new social‑housing schemes, adding a 53.1‑ha project in Dan Phuong and smaller sites in Ô Diên, Xuân Phương and Đan Phượng. The city has already delivered over 5,100 social‑housing units (2021‑2025) and 24 relocation projects covering 11,900 apartments. Of the 90 approved social‑housing projects, 13 are under construction (11,124 units) and 41 are slated to start in 2026, targeting roughly 32,000 additional homes.

These initiatives aim to expand housing stock, alleviate pressure on the market, and support the city’s long‑term urban‑sprawl strategy.
