Hanoi targets 22% of regional GDP from digital economy by 2026

Hanoi is intensifying efforts to make the digital economy a central driver of growth, setting a goal for the sector to account for 22 % of the city’s regional gross domestic product (GRDP) by the end of 2026. A municipal report shows the digital economy already contributed about 16.7 % of Hanoi’s GRDP (approximately US$5.5 billion) in the first half of 2026, growing 10.6 % year‑on‑year and adding roughly 1.1 percentage points to the city’s overall 8.2 % GRDP expansion.

In June, the Hanoi People’s Committee approved four resolutions covering high‑tech parks, incentives for strategic investors, support for private firms and policies to accelerate digital transformation. By late June, foreign direct investment in science and technology sectors reached US$2.22 billion, representing 68 % of total FDI to Hanoi, with more than 60 % channeled through equity stakes and capital contributions. The city now hosts about 11,000 digital‑technology enterprises—around 14 % of Vietnam’s total—generating combined revenues of roughly VND 277.7 trillion (US$10.5 billion). Ongoing initiatives include expanding e‑commerce, developing a semiconductor industry, promoting a nighttime economy and establishing new digital zones.
