Hanoi unveils 100-year urban development and economic vision

Hanoi has launched a comprehensive plan to implement its 100-year master vision through the creation of 81 specific urban plans. This initiative aims to ensure synchronized and feasible development across various levels, including five underground and technical infrastructure plans, 63 urban subdivision plans, and 13 functional zone plans. The city intends to complete the approval process for all these plans by 2026.

The development strategy focuses on restructuring the historical inner city using a ‘green-compressed’ model, utilizing underground spaces, and implementing Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) while preserving heritage. Areas along the Ring Road 4 are being oriented toward becoming urban corridors.

Economically, Hanoi has set ambitious growth targets. For the 2026–2030 period, the city aims for an average annual GRDP growth of over 11%, targeting a total GRDP of over $113 billion and a per capita GRDP of at least $12,000. Long-term projections include reaching a GRDP of approximately $200 billion by 2035, $640 billion by 2045, and $1.92 trillion by 2065. The city's growth model will prioritize productivity, knowledge, science, technology, and digital transformation, with a focus on sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and logistics.
