Hanoi 100-Year Urban Master Plan

In July 2026, Hanoi unveiled a comprehensive 100‑year urban master plan that initially emphasized a multi‑pole development model. The first rollout highlighted the creation of satellite districts such as Hòa Lạc, Gia Lâm, Đông Anh and Tây Hồ Tây to alleviate congestion, improve environmental quality and stimulate real‑estate activity, citing comparable growth in Shanghai and Seoul.

A week later, the city broadened the plan’s focus to cultural‑driven revitalisation. Through Politburo Resolution No. 80‑NQ/TW, Hanoi introduced initiatives to preserve historic sites while converting idle industrial zones into creative hubs, parks and museums. A design competition was launched to engage architects and artists, aligning the master plan with UNESCO’s Creative Cities Network and positioning culture as a core driver of sustainable growth.
