Hanoi launches AI‑driven enrollment for 800,000 students starting July

From 1 July, public kindergartens, primary and lower‑secondary schools in Hanoi began enrollment for the 2026‑2027 academic year. The city aims to admit roughly 800,000 children: about 116,200 to nurseries, 374,300 to preschool classes, 147,000 to Grade 1 and 161,000 to Grade 6.

The process uses a unified online system together with GIS mapping and artificial‑intelligence algorithms to verify each child’s residence and allocate a school nearest to home, shifting from the former household‑registration based method. The new “5 clear” principles require transparency on enrollment routes, quotas, timelines, methods and responsibilities. Parents can register online from 1‑9 July, with in‑person registration held from 12‑18 July. Schools are instructed not to solicit donations and to protect student data.

The initiative is intended to ensure equitable access, reduce overcrowding at high‑demand schools and streamline administrative procedures.
