Overview

The university admission round began on 3 July 2026. By 15 July, 874,000 graduates submitted 7.18 million programme choices, with strong demand for STEM tracks. The Ministry’s probe of the Tuyên Quang Specialized High School scandal expanded to 26 suspects, and officials warned that any later annulment of inflated results could affect slot allocation. A draft decree released on 19 July proposes expanded preferential admission for ethnic‑minority learners, higher priority points, financial aid up to 150 % of a base salary and acceptance of minority‑language certificates for postgraduate entry. The same draft bans “enhanced education” ahead‑of‑schedule curricula and requires qualified staff and approved materials. Admission rules remain complex: Hanoi University set a 20‑point floor and a mandatory foreign‑language test, rejecting 147 candidates whose international certificates were not recognised. The mathematics floor for semiconductor‑related programmes was raised to 7.5 points and the overall subject‑score floor to about 22.75 points. On 23 July the Ministry announced a strict timetable: online fee payment must be made between 15 July and 17 h on 21 July; first‑round results will be published by 17 h on 13 August; each applicant may list up to 15 preferences. Local pressure grew on 25 July as parents, teachers and students in Can Thơ called for separating the high‑school graduation exam from the university entrance test, arguing that the dual purpose creates excess stress and a “luck” factor. On 30 July all higher‑education institutions completed data upload to the MOET system. From 4 August to 5 pm on 9 August a virtual‑filtering stage will determine each applicant’s highest‑priority wish. After a final run on 10 August, universities must keep the resulting admission list unchanged, with cut‑off scores to be published no later than 5 pm on 13 August.
