Hanoi's Vành đai 1 Ring Road segment nears key construction milestone
The 2.2‑km segment of Hanoi’s Ring Road 1 (Vành đai 1) between Hoàng Cầu and Voi Phục, dubbed the “most expensive road on Earth” with an investment of nearly VND 7.8 trillion, is being fast‑tracked for a National Day opening on 2 September. Deputy Party Secretary Nguyễn Trọng Đông urged all units to concentrate machinery and accelerate work so the road can be opened on the surface for the holiday.
Construction of the Nguyễn Chí Thanh overpass (contract 17) is about 24.45 % complete, with pile‑driving finished and beam installation underway. Work on retaining walls, approach roads, lighting and finishing works is also progressing, though delays have arisen from slow land handover between pillars T3‑T4. The two overpasses on the route must be finished by 31 December 2026, while the main road is targeted for the September 2 opening.
Authorities emphasized safety, traffic decongestion and the need to avoid further setbacks as the project approaches its critical milestones.
