Hanoi's Vo Chi Cong Road Defective After Flood Control Project

The over‑4‑km Vo Chi Cong road in Hanoi, a key link between the city centre, the Nhật Tân Bridge and Nội Bài Airport, was resurfaced following months of work to install underground drainage boxes aimed at reducing flooding in the West Lake area. After the construction, many sections display long patch seams where the new pavement meets the old, creating height differences that cause vehicles to vibrate, and some spots show localized subsidence, rippling or peeled surface. Rainwater pools in depressions, making the unevenness more evident, and motorists are forced to reduce speed.

The Hanoi Department of Construction has urged the developer to promptly complete full road repairs and address the uneven sections. Residents are watching the quality of the road restoration closely as the new drainage system becomes operational, hoping it will improve flood protection while delivering a smooth driving surface.
