Uttarakhand declares ‘Hanuman Ansh’ tax-free amid box office success

The spiritual biopic ‘Hanuman Ansh’, based on the life and teachings of Neem Karoli Baba, has become a major box office success in India. Despite a slow start following its August 7 release, the film—produced on a modest budget of approximately ₹2 crore—has surged to nearly ₹100 crore in net collections, driven by strong word-of-mouth.

In response to the film's success and its portrayal of the state's spiritual heritage, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced that the film will be made tax-free in Uttarakhand. Dhami, who viewed the film in Dehradun, praised the work for showcasing the life of Baba Neem Karoli Maharaj and his dedication to service and humanity.

Directed by Vishal Chaturvedi and starring Shobhinaw Satya, the film follows a spiritual journey through North India. Following the tax-free announcement in Uttarakhand, the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has appealed to the Maharashtra government to grant the film similar status to encourage wider viewership.
