Hanuman Ansh box office success and political debate
Overview
The devotional drama ‘Hanuman Ansh’, inspired by the life of Neem Karoli Baba, has become a significant box office success in India. Produced on a modest budget of approximately ₹2 crore, the film initially saw a quiet release with a ₹10 lakh opening day. Driven by strong word of mouth, the film’s distribution was scaled up significantly, and by its fourth week, it surpassed the ₹50 crore net mark in India. As the film entered its fifth week, its momentum increased significantly. By its 30th day, the film reported a significant jump in earnings, collecting approximately ₹16.25 crore net. Following this trajectory, ‘Hanuman Ansh’ officially crossed the ₹100 crore net domestic collection milestone, making it the smallest Hindi film in terms of scale to reach this mark. By its 31st day of release, the film recorded a net collection of ₹122.13 crore and a gross collection of ₹144.40 crore. Recent reports indicate the gross collection has reached approximately ₹169.20 crore. Building on this momentum, the film has now crossed ₹153 crore in net collections, entering the list of top Bollywood earners for 2026. Directed by Dr. Vishal Chaturvedi and starring Shobhinaw Satyaa, the film continues to maintain steady theater occupancy. Following its commercial success and a special screening in Dehradun, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced that the film will be made tax-free in the state. In response, the All India Cine Workers Association (AICWA) has requested the Maharashtra government to also declare the film tax-free. Expanding this political movement, Minister of State for Defense Sanjay Seth has requested Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren to grant the film tax-free status, citing its ability to present ‘Indian culture and Sanatana values’.
