Hanwha rises to 16th in global defense industry rankings

Hanwha has risen to 16th place in the global defense industry rankings, according to the ‘2026 Top 100 Defense Companies’ report released by Defense News. This marks a six-step increase from its 22nd place ranking the previous year.

Driven by increased exports of products such as the K9 self-propelled howitzer and Chunmoo multiple launch rocket systems, Hanwha’s defense revenue reached approximately $10.4 billion, a significant increase from the previous year. Other South Korean firms also appeared in the top 100, including LIG Nex1 (52nd), Hyundai Rotem (61st), and Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) (74th).

To further its global competitiveness, Hanwha is pursuing a strategy of large-scale integration. This includes expanding its stake in KAI, a move recently approved by the Fair Trade Commission, to build capabilities in launch vehicles, satellites, and aerospace platforms. The company has also established international production bases, including a facility in Geelong, Australia, and ongoing operations in Romania, Poland, and the United States.
