Hanwha global defense industry expansion

Hanwha has demonstrated significant growth in its defense R&D capabilities and global market standing. The company has maintained a 17-year streak of achieving the highest ‘Level 5’ rating in the Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) version 3.0 assessment, a certification used by major international firms like Lockheed Martin and Boeing to evaluate process maturity in sectors such as radar, satellites, and combat management systems.

Building on this technical foundation, Hanwha rose to 16th place in the ‘2026 Top 100 Defense Companies’ report by Defense News, climbing six spots from the previous year. This advancement was driven by increased revenue, reaching approximately $10.4 billion through the export of products like the K9 self-propelled howitzer and Chunmoo multiple launch rocket systems. To bolster global competitiveness, the company is pursuing large-scale integration, including expanding its stake in Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) and establishing international production bases in Australia, Romania, Poland, and the United States.
