Haramsfjorden residents oppose Måsøval aquaculture proposal

Local opposition has emerged against a proposal by Måsøval to establish a large-scale salmon and trout aquaculture facility in Haramsfjorden, near Åkre on Haramsøya. The proposed site is estimated to cover an area equivalent to 50 international football fields.

Critics argue the location is unsuitable because the area is already heavily utilized for traditional activities, including net fishing, crab and lobster fishing, and recreational use such as hiking and swimming at Martinsanden. Concerns have also been raised regarding environmental impacts, specifically the potential for pollution from fish excrement, feed, medicines, and chemicals being released into the sea.
