Harry Kane emerges as top Ballon d'Or candidate according to football legends

Football legends Rio Ferdinand and Lothar Matthäus have both voiced strong support for Harry Kane as the premier candidate for the 2026 Ballon d'Or.

Ferdinand highlighted Kane's prolific scoring record, noting that the Bayern Munich striker finished the season with 73 goals across all competitions. Kane's achievements include winning the European Golden Boot and scoring 36 goals in 31 Bundesliga matches, alongside significant contributions in the Champions League and German Cup.

Matthäus also identified Kane as the most deserving recipient, citing his consistent high-level performance. In evaluating other contenders, Matthäus suggested that while Lamine Yamal is an exceptional player, his recent season did not reach previous heights. He also noted that Kylian Mbappé lacks recent titles with Real Madrid or France to bolster his candidacy, whereas Kane's statistical dominance and trophy pursuits make him the standout choice.
