Harvey Weinstein sentenced to 15 years in New York prison

Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in New York following a conviction for committing a criminal sexual act against former production assistant Miriam Haley. The sentence, handed down by Judge Curtis Farber, includes five years of post-release supervision and requires Weinstein to register as a sex offender.

The conviction stems from a 2025 retrial after New York’s highest court overturned a previous 2020 conviction on the grounds that the original trial was unfair. During the proceedings, Haley testified that the 2006 assault at Weinstein’s Manhattan apartment had a “devastating effect” on her life.

While Weinstein, 74, maintained his innocence, he issued an apology to “anyone I may have hurt by my actions.” Prosecutors had sought a 20-year sentence, arguing that Weinstein had shown no true remorse, while the defense requested nine years, citing his declining health. The judge requested that this sentence run consecutively to Weinstein’s existing sentence in California.
