Hashim Thaçi Seeks Conditional Release from Hague Court with €50,000 Guarantee
Former Kosovo president Hashim Thaçi, whose war‑crimes case is being heard by the Special Court in The Hague, has asked the tribunal for conditional release. His defence team offered a financial guarantee of €50,000 and outlined a set of restrictions: Thaçi will not leave Kosovo without court permission, will surrender his passport and any travel documents, and will refrain from making public statements or contacting co‑accused and witnesses. He also agreed to weekly police verification and to remain under the court’s supervision throughout the proceedings.
The court’s single judge will consider whether these conditions are sufficient to mitigate any flight‑risk concerns and decide on a temporary release pending trial.
