Former Kosovo President Hashim Thaci has been sentenced to 25 years in prison by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers for war crimes committed during the 1998–1999 conflict. The court found Thaci and other former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders responsible for murders, illegal arrests, torture, and cruel treatment. While Thaci was convicted of contributing to a joint criminal enterprise, he was acquitted of six counts of crimes against humanity.

Other KLA leaders also received significant sentences: Jakub Krasniqi was sentenced to 25 years, Kadri Veseli to 18 years, and Rexhep Selimi to 13 years. Thaci's legal counsel has indicated that an appeal will be filed.

The ruling has sparked widespread unrest and significant protests in Kosovo. In Pristina, thousands of people, including KLA veterans, gathered to express outrage and solidarity with the convicted leaders, with some demonstrators demanding the court overturn the decision.
