Hatay apartment fire and explosions injure mother and son

A fire and series of explosions destroyed an apartment in the Çekmece neighborhood of the Defne district in Hatay, Turkey. The incident occurred in a ground-floor unit of a five-story building.

A five-member family was inside the residence when the fire broke out. While most family members managed to escape the building, a mother and her son were caught in the flames and sustained burn injuries. Three other individuals were reported injured, including one relative who was severely burned, while two others were treated for smoke inhalation. The injured are currently receiving medical treatment in a hospital.

Witness Nisanur Yaylacı reported that the explosions were so sudden she initially mistook them for an earthquake. She noted that a television, an air conditioner, and a generator on the balcony all exploded during the incident. Firefighters arrived quickly and prevented the blaze from spreading to the upper floors, but the apartment was left completely unusable due to extensive damage.
