Hatay family calls for justice in 6-year-old missing person case

The family of Ali Nail Gündoğan, a welder who disappeared six years ago, is calling on the Turkish Ministry of Justice to reopen his case. Gündoğan, then 23, went out to sea in a boat for fishing in the Samandağ district of Hatay on December 31, 2020, accompanied by a friend.

During the incident, the boat was reportedly swept away by wind. While the friend was found safe on rocks approximately 73 meters from the shore, Gündoğan disappeared along with the boat. Extensive search operations were conducted by the Coast Guard and AFAD, covering a vast area from the Syrian border to the waters off Antalya, but no traces of Gündoğan, his boat, or his equipment were ever found.

His father, Cumali Gündoğan, has expressed deep emotional and financial distress due to the ongoing uncertainty. He is requesting a detailed re-examination of the case, specifically asking for the investigation of mobile phone records from two devices that were with his son on the night of the disappearance.
