Hatay house fire destroys home of earthquake survivor family

A house belonging to a Syrian family of earthquake survivors was destroyed by a fire in the Antakya district of Hatay, Turkey. The incident occurred on İzmir Street in the Hacı Ömer Alpagot neighborhood.

Preliminary findings suggest the fire originated from the electrical installation. The homeowner, Mecdi Zimo, reported that he was working at a bakery when he was notified of the blaze. Upon arriving, he managed to rescue his 7-year-old son from the flames before fire crews arrived. The homeowner noted that a fan plugged into a socket may have been the cause, as he had recently replaced that specific outlet.

While the fire caused significant damage and rendered the house unusable, fire department intervention prevented any loss of life or injuries. The homeowner’s wife and two other children were staying with a relative at the time, which prevented further casualties. Authorities have launched a technical investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
