Hatay hunter fined heavily for illegal honey buzzard hunting

An individual in Hatay, Turkey, has been heavily penalized for illegally hunting seven honey buzzards in the Antakya district. Following an inspection by Serinyol gendarmerie, the hunter was found to have violated multiple nature conservation laws, including hunting protected species, hunting outside of permitted seasons, and hunting without a valid license.

The Hatay Nature Conservation and National Parks Directorate imposed an administrative fine of 26,278 TL. Additionally, a compensation report was issued for the seven honey buzzards—five of which died and two of which were injured—totaling 1,330,000 TL to account for the damage to nature. Authorities also seized the hunter's semi-automatic shotgun.
