Hato Mayor mechanical ride accident injures three girls

Three girls were injured after being ejected from a mechanical ride known as ‘La Estrellita’ during the patronal festivities in Hato Mayor, Dominican Republic. The accident occurred on Friday night on Padre Meriño Street when a seat reportedly opened abruptly while the attraction was in motion.

Two of the victims, aged 11 and 13, were transferred to the Hospital Pediátrico Dr. Hugo Mendoza in Santo Domingo. The 11-year-old underwent emergency neurosurgery for a complex cranial trauma and is currently in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in stable condition. The 13-year-old is in intermediate care with a mild cranial trauma. A third girl sustained minor injuries and was discharged after medical evaluation.

Authorities have detained three employees of Estévez Ramos Park in connection with the incident. The Ministry of Interior and Police has ordered the closure and dismantling of the amusement park as investigations continue into potential technical failures, lack of maintenance, or negligence.
