Havanna to open Junín store as Buenos Aires kiosks become cafés

The Argentine confectionery brand Havanna will open a renovated shop in the city of Junín in October. The location, at the corner of Hipólito Yrigoyen and Roque Sáenz Peña, is part of the Municipal Art Museum building and was awarded to MRT Gastro S.R.L. after a public tender. While the municipal council approved the concession, councilor Gastón Bisio opposed the decision, arguing that the block’s dissent was not against private investment but reflected broader concerns about the process.

In Buenos Aires, an old newspaper kiosk at the Ministro Carranza station in the Palermo neighborhood has been transformed into Caluen – Café, Calma y Barrio. The new venue offers quick coffee, snacks and affordable meals, illustrating a growing trend of repurposing historic kiosks to meet modern commuter needs as print media declines.
