Hawaiian Airlines crew reported ill after odor on flight to Honolulu
Seven flight attendants reported feeling ill, including symptoms of nausea and headaches, following an unidentified odor in the cabin of a flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu on September 24, 2026. The aircraft, an Airbus A330-200, was operated by Hawaiian Airlines for Alaska Airlines flight AS803.
Despite the crew's symptoms, pilots continued the flight to the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport. Upon landing, the affected crew members were evaluated by emergency medical personnel. All seven crew members were declared fit and were able to be released after outpatient examination; no passengers required medical attention.
The aircraft underwent technical inspection and was returned to regular passenger service approximately eleven hours after the incident. This event has drawn attention to ‘fume events’ in civil aviation, particularly as it follows similar recent occurrences in the industry.
