Hawaiian Airlines crew members fall ill after mystery odor on flight

Seven flight attendants fell ill after an unexplained odor was detected aboard a Hawaiian Airlines Airbus A330-200 during a flight from Los Angeles to Honolulu on September 24. The aircraft was operating flight AS 803 on behalf of Alaska Airlines.

Upon arrival at Daniel K. Inouye International Airport, emergency medical personnel evaluated the crew. The affected attendants reported symptoms including headaches and nausea. While all seven were assessed by medical teams, none required hospitalization. Passengers on the flight, numbering approximately 252, were not reported to require medical attention.

Hawaiian Airlines is investigating the cause of the odor. Aviation safety experts note that such incidents can sometimes be linked to substances like oil or hydraulic fluid entering the ventilation system, though no such cause has been confirmed for this specific event. The aircraft, registered as N375HA, was scheduled for inspection before returning to service.
