Haydn Music Festival and Vaňhal performances highlight Czech classical music

The 34th Haydn Music Festival is taking place in the Czech Republic from September 11 to October 11, centered on the theme ‘Ex radicibus traditionis’ (From the roots of tradition). The festival emphasizes historical authenticity and stylistic accuracy, commemorating Joseph Haydn’s professional engagement at Dolní Lukavice. Key events include an opening concert in Dolní Lukavice featuring violinist Markéta Janoušková and conductor Jiří Štrunc, as well as a Bach program by Vojtěch Spurný and Jakub Kydlička at Křimice Castle, which aims to create a reference recording of Bach’s organ trio sonatas.

Additionally, the ensemble Musica Florea is performing the works of classical composer Jan Křtitel Vaňhal. Concerts are scheduled for October 2 in Karlovy Vary and October 3 in Prague. The program features four of Vaňhal’s symphonies, including modern premieres of the C major and A major symphonies. These works, preserved in the Esterházy collection through Haydn, highlight the historical connection between Vaňhal and major composers like Haydn and Mozart.
