Classical music festivals and heritage in Czech Republic

Overview

The Czech Republic continues its season of classical music festivals and heritage preservation. Following late August events such as the 45th International Organ Festival Olomouc and the Varhanní Vysočina festival, and early September celebrations like the 34th Haydn Music Festival, the autumn schedule features several major events.

The sixth edition of the Varhanní Vysočina festival is scheduled to run from September 13 to November 8 across the Vysočina Region. Operating under the motto ‘Music that connects generations’, the festival includes nine concerts commemorating the anniversaries of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Antonín Dvořák, and Josef Bohuslav Foerster, alongside collaborations with international singing and organ competitions.

In Brno, the 32nd Leoš Janáček International Music Competition will take place from September 14 to 20. Organized by the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts, this edition focuses on the French horn and tuba—disciplines that appear in the competition cycle only once every five years. Approximately 150 musicians from 35 countries are expected to participate, with the event concluding on September 20 with a performance by the Bohuslav Martinů Philharmonic Orchestra.
