Hazelnut producers in Samsun adopt nets to cut labor costs
In the Çarşamba district of Samsun, hazelnut producers are increasingly adopting the use of harvest nets to streamline the collection process. This method significantly reduces labor costs, with officials noting that it can decrease labor requirements by up to 70 percent.
Beyond cost savings, the use of nets helps maintain product quality and yield. By allowing hazelnuts to fall onto nets once fully ripe rather than being picked manually from branches, producers avoid damaging tree limbs and prevent the nuts from touching the soil. This process helps preserve the yield and quality for future seasons.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry provides grant support of up to 70 percent for producers purchasing these harvest nets. To date, approximately 200 producers have utilized this support, with an additional 95 producers recently approved for assistance.
