Turkey's TMO reports record grain procurement and payments

Turkey's agricultural sector is seeing significant activity as the grain and hazelnut seasons progress. The Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has reached a record in grain procurement, having purchased 12.1 million tons of product and made 170 billion TL in payments to producers. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry İbrahim Yumaklı reported that wheat and barley harvests are nearly complete, with completion rates at 98.8% and 99.2%, respectively.

In the hazelnut sector, a significant price gap has emerged between official and free market rates. While TMO set purchase prices for the 2026-2027 season at 255 TL for Giresun quality and 250 TL for Levant quality, free market prices in regions like Trabzon, Ordu, and Samsun are reportedly ranging between 150 TL and 170 TL. Producers have expressed concerns that rising input costs, such as fertilizer and labor, are making production unsustainable at current market rates.

Additionally, weather conditions have impacted the hazelnut harvest. Due to heavy rainfall in the Trabzon region, many producers are transporting their harvested hazelnuts to Bayburt to utilize the sunnier climate for drying, a necessary step to prevent spoilage and oil accumulation.
