Hazelnut Workers Set Up Tents in Alaplı Ahead of Turkey’s Harvest
Seasonal agricultural workers from Eastern and Southeast Anatolia have arrived in Alaplı, Zonguldak Province, and erected temporary tents in Mollabey village as the hazelnut harvest approaches. The workers, many traveling over 20 hours from places such as Şanlıurfa, are preparing for a harvest slated to begin on 7 August. They expressed optimism about the weather, with Mehmet Ali Hatipoğlu saying, "The air looks good this year, we hope for a blessed season," and Güneş Öğüş adding, "We are waiting for the 7th, hoping for a fruitful harvest." After roughly a month of work in Alaplı, the laborers plan to move to the Karasu area of Sakarya Province to continue harvesting before returning home before the school year starts.
