Hazer-KBR Alliance secures paid hydrogen study in Japan

The Hazer-KBR Alliance has entered into a binding agreement with a major Japanese power utility to conduct a paid prefeasibility study. The project will evaluate the deployment of Hazer’s methane pyrolysis technology and its integration into the customer’s power generation portfolio.

The study aims to assess hydrogen production capacities at scales of 30,000 and 300,000 tonnes per annum. It is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. Hazer expects to receive approximately A$65,000 in revenue for the initial phase of the project.

This marks the first commercial engagement for KBR since the completion of its process design package in April 2026. Hazer CEO Glenn Corrie noted that the deal highlights a strategic opportunity and demonstrates commercial momentum for the partnership within the Japanese market, which is focused on energy security and decarbonisation.
