HBO Max to release Polish crime miniseries ‘Wśród nocnej ciszy’

HBO Max will release ‘Wśród nocnej ciszy’ (Among the Night Silence), a six-episode miniseries, in November. Directed by Jan Holoubek, the production is based on Wiesław Łuka’s reportage ‘Nie oświadczam się’ and commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Połańce crime.

The story is set in December 1976 during the communist era in Poland. It follows the investigation into the deaths of three young people—Stanisław, his pregnant wife Krystyna, and her 12-year-old brother Mieczysław—who were killed by a bus. While initially ruled an accident, the series depicts a struggle for truth led by the victims' mother and a young investigator, Maczek, against a wall of silence from the local community.

The cast includes Łukasz Simlat, Jędrzej Hycnar, Magdalena Biegańska, and Tomasz Włosok. The series is co-directed by Maciej Kowalewski.
