HBO Max has announced the November 13 release of ‘Wśród nocnej ciszy’ (Among the Night Silence), a six-episode Polish crime miniseries directed by Jan Holoubek.

Based on Wiesław Łuka’s reportage ‘Nie oświadczam się’, the production commemorates the 50th anniversary of the ‘Połaniec crime’. Set during the Christmas of 1976 in the village of Zrębin during the communist era, the series dramatizes the deaths of three individuals—Stanisław, his pregnant wife Krystyna, and her 12-year-old brother Mieczysław—who were killed by a bus on the night of December 24–25. While the incident was initially ruled an accident, the narrative follows a mother’s struggle for truth and an investigator’s efforts to break through a local “conspiracy of silence.”

The historical event is noted to have stemmed from a long-standing conflict between the Kalita and Sojda families. The series features Jędrzej Hycnar in a lead role as an investigator modeled after the real officer who handled the case.

Produced by Lulu Production and TVN, the cast includes Łukasz Simlat, Jędrzej Hycnar, Magdalena Biegańska, Tomasz Włosok, Justyna Wasilewska, Tomasz Schuchardt, and Adam Woronowicz. Maciej Kowalewski contributed to the screenplay.
