La bola negra achieves major success and Oscar candidacy
The Spanish film ‘La bola negra’, directed by Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi (known as Los Javis), has become a major cinematic phenomenon. The film, which is Spain’s official entry for the Oscars, has seen significant box office success, with estimated earnings exceeding 6.6 million euros and approaching one million viewers.
Amidst the film's success, footballer Héctor Bellerín revealed he turned down an offer to play a lead role in the production. Bellerín stated he declined the opportunity to avoid ‘intrusismo laboral’ (professional encroachment), citing respect for the precarious nature of the acting industry and its high unemployment rates.
Building on this momentum, Los Javis are expanding their creative reach. HBO Max has announced the development of a new drama series inspired by the unsolved murders in the mountain community of Tor. The project will be executive produced by the directors and will feature collaboration with journalist Carles Porta. Additionally, the film is set to have international visibility, including a closing screening at the Viña del Mar International Film Festival in Chile.
