HD Hydrogen completes Korean solid‑oxide fuel cell mass‑production system

HD Hydrogen, a fuel‑cell and electrolyzer specialist of HD Hyundai, announced it has completed pre‑use safety inspections by the Korea Electrical Safety Corporation (KESCO) for its two solid‑oxide fuel cell (SOFC) power units, HD250 (249 kW) and HD300 (285 kW), as well as for its manufacturing facilities, establishing a domestic mass‑production line. Founded in August 2024, the company achieved product development and production‑line setup within two years, leveraging HD Hyundai’s manufacturing expertise. The SOFCs can operate on hydrogen or natural gas, feature water‑free operation, and are aimed at small‑scale clean‑power markets such as data centres, with plans to expand into marine applications. An MOU with HD Hyundai’s shipbuilding affiliates and Korean classification societies was signed to commercialise marine‑grade SOFCs, positioning the firm to enter both land‑based and offshore power markets in South Korea.

The move marks a significant step for South Korea’s domestic clean‑energy technology sector, providing a locally produced, high‑efficiency power solution that can be deployed in diverse environments without external water supply.
