Health advisories issued for beaches in Oregon and California

Public health officials in Oregon and California have issued warnings regarding unsafe bacteria levels in coastal waters.

The Oregon Health Authority issued an advisory for Siletz Bay in Lincoln County due to unsafe levels of fecal bacteria. Officials recommend that people avoid direct contact with the water to prevent illnesses such as diarrhea, skin rashes, and respiratory infections. Vulnerable groups, including children and the elderly, are advised to exercise extra caution. The advisory remains in effect until re-testing confirms safe levels.

In California, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health issued warnings for nine coastal locations after samples exceeded state health standards. Affected areas include sections of Santa Monica Beach, Torrance Beach, Redondo Beach, Paradise Cove, and San Pedro. While some warnings for Paradise Cove and Catalina Island have been lifted, beachgoers are advised to remain cautious near storm drains and creek runoff.
