Dominican Republic health initiatives focus on prevention and community access

Various health initiatives and reports have emerged across the Dominican Republic. In Mao, Valverde, the Ministry of Public Health is conducting the ‘Más Salud’ campaign on September 4 and 5, offering free medical consultations, vaccinations, and mental health services at Liceo Juan de Jesús Reyes.

In Barahona, the Jaime Mota Regional University Hospital is focusing on dengue prevention through educational sessions for patients to reduce mosquito breeding sites. However, political figures have raised concerns regarding the hospital's finances, alleging that its debt increased significantly over the last six years.

Other regional health activities include the INABIE ‘Ruta del Bienestar’ in Dajabón, providing visual, auditory, and oral health services to over 600 students. Additionally, the Dominican Dermatological Institute reported that 130 patients are currently undergoing active treatment for leprosy, with 37 new cases recorded through July 2026.

In Argentina, the government in Jujuy continues medical tours in the Puna region, providing specialized care to remote communities like Casabindo. Meanwhile, professional development for doctors in the Dominican Republic was highlighted through a conference series on primary care organized by AGMEDO, MEDICOOP, and UNIBE.
