Health authorities launch mosquito control measures to combat dengue

Health authorities in Mexico and Panama are intensifying efforts to combat the spread of dengue fever through vector control operations and community awareness campaigns.

In Aguascalientes, Mexico, the State Health Secretariat has launched a series of nebulization sessions across various neighborhoods to eliminate adult mosquitoes. The operation, scheduled to run through late August, includes specialized products designed to reduce transmission risks without harming the environment or public health. Officials noted that while nebulization targets flying mosquitoes, additional larval control measures are being implemented to address breeding sites.

In the Colón province of Panama, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reports over 1,500 confirmed dengue cases. The highest incidence rates have been recorded in Puerto Pilón, followed by Cristóbal Este, Sabanitas, and Cativá. Health officials are facing challenges with community indifference regarding waste management and water storage. To address this, Minsa is partnering with local community boards to conduct house-to-house sensitization and deep cleaning operations to eradicate Aedes aegypti breeding grounds.
