Health authorities respond to rabies and dengue outbreaks in Argentina and Peru

Health authorities in Argentina and Peru are implementing measures to combat spreading diseases. In the Ambato department of Argentina, the Ministry of Productive Development is coordinating rabies prevention efforts in Los Varela. Following detected cases, officials from SENASA and INTA are working with local municipalities and the agricultural sector to identify bat habitats and implement vaccination protocols to protect livestock and the population.

In Peru, the San Martín province is facing a dengue outbreak with 15 reported deaths and over 7,000 cases. While vaccination campaigns have reached areas such as Moyobamba, Rioja, and Bellavista, the province of San Martín—including Tarapoto—has not yet been included in the current dose distribution. Health officials report that children and adolescents are among the most affected groups, particularly in the Bajo Mayo jurisdiction.
