Health awareness and support initiatives organized across Belgium
Various health awareness and information initiatives are being organized across Belgium to support citizens with chronic conditions and improve medical emergency preparedness.
In Zottegem, an information stand was held during the Tuesday market to discuss dementia. Local welfare and care partners, including the Alzheimer Liga Vlaanderen and AZ Sint-Elisabeth Zottegem, provided information and direct dialogue for residents and visitors. The initiative is part of Zottegem’s commitment to being a dementia-friendly city within the Vlaamse Ardennen region.
The Vlaamse Parkinson Liga has announced a Parkinson weekend in Balen, scheduled for October 23–25. The event will feature expert lectures on treatments and early diagnosis, information markets, and social activities for patients and caregivers.
In Retie, information sessions are being organized to help residents use the RIZIV ‘MijnGezondheidsapp’ for accessing medical records and medication schedules. Additionally, certain residents, including those over 65 or with chronic illnesses, can collect a free ‘Gele Doos’ (Yellow Box) and care card to ensure emergency responders have immediate access to vital medical information during crises.
