Health experts urge flu vaccinations amid rising cases in Australia and UAE
Health authorities in Australia and the United Arab Emirates are urging the public to seek influenza vaccinations as seasonal activity shifts.
In Australia, the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) has reported a spike in influenza cases. Data shows more than 1,300 confirmed cases in the region during August, nearly triple the figures from July. Dr. Bart Willems noted that while many associate flu season with early winter, current surveillance shows increasing activity across New South Wales, including rising emergency department presentations. Experts emphasize that it is not too late to get vaccinated to prevent serious illness and complications.
In the United Arab Emirates, medical professionals are encouraging residents to receive flu shots in September before the winter surge. The 2026–27 vaccination campaign targets priority groups including pregnant women, children, the elderly, healthcare workers, and those with chronic illnesses. Dr. Malaz Yabrodi advised that because it takes approximately two weeks for the body to develop immunity, vaccination should occur before the expected increase in cases during December and January.
