Health experts warn against overreliance on dietary supplements
As autumn approaches, there is a notable increase in the purchase of dietary supplements such as vitamin D, magnesium, zinc, vitamin C, and fish oil. However, medical professionals warn that these supplements are not miracle cures and are not intended to treat or diagnose diseases.
Experts emphasize that fatigue and other symptoms often attributed to vitamin deficiencies may actually stem from stress, poor sleep, lack of physical activity, thyroid issues, or anemia. The U.S. National Institutes of Health notes that while supplements can complement a diet, excessive doses can be harmful or interact negatively with medications. Relying on supplements may also lead individuals to delay addressing the underlying causes of their health concerns.
