Health experts warn of risks associated with tea and coffee consumption habits

Health experts are highlighting specific consumption habits regarding tea and coffee that may impact long-term wellness.

Regarding tea, experts warn that drinking beverages at excessively high temperatures can irritate the esophagus, potentially increasing the risk of esophageal cancer over time. Additionally, consuming tea that has been brewed for several hours may lead to increased levels of tannins and fluoride, which can affect kidney and digestive health. Other concerns include consuming tea on an empty stomach and adding excessive sugar, which contributes to higher daily sugar intake.

In terms of coffee, research indicates that while caffeine can increase alertness and reduce fatigue, individual effects vary based on caffeine sensitivity and preparation methods. A study involving over 40,000 adults suggested that morning coffee consumption was associated with a lower risk of mortality compared to non-consumers. However, researchers note that these observational findings do not prove that coffee directly extends life or prevents specific diseases.
