Health initiatives expand in Chile and Argentina

In Chile, the launch of SENTINET (Center for Research in Surveillance, Epidemiology, and New Technologies for Emerging Infectious Threats) aims to strengthen national sanitary preparedness. Funded by the National Research and Development Agency (ANID), the center brings together over 40 experts from the Universidad del Desarrollo, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, and other institutions. The center focuses on researching emerging and re-emerging diseases, zoonosis, antimicrobial resistance, and potential pandemic outbreaks through genomics, data analysis, and public policy.

In Catamarca, Argentina, health authorities and the National University of Catamarca (UNCA) have organized a prevention day in response to rising cases of syphilis and HIV. The initiative focuses on sexual education, the importance of barrier methods like condoms, and the necessity of regular testing for early diagnosis to prevent community transmission and chronic complications.
