Health initiatives launched in Sulawesi provinces
Various health programs have been implemented in the Sulawesi region of Indonesia to support community well-being. In Makassar, PT Patra Logistik Area Sulawesi, through its ‘Pertamina Sehat’ program, conducted health screenings, dental examinations, and medical education for 30 elderly residents at the Panti Werdha Theodora nursing home. The initiative included the distribution of essential supplies such as milk, diapers, and basic food staples.
In Palu, BPJS Kesehatan (the national social security agency) collaborated with the Central Sulawesi provincial government and Prodia Laboratory to provide Pap smear screenings for women. The program aims to facilitate early detection of cervical cancer, which remains a leading cause of death among women in Indonesia. Officials emphasized that early detection through these screenings can improve prognosis and reduce the high costs associated with advanced-stage cancer treatments under the national health insurance program.
